A growth scan is done between 28 and 38 weeks of pregnancy, and its purpose is to measure the growth of the baby and check the amniotic fluid and the placenta.
Measuring the baby
In order to evaluate the growth of the baby, we will measure the head circumference, the width of the head, the abdominal circumference and the length of the upper leg (bone).
This ultrasound is only covered by your healthcare insurance if there is a medical reason to monitor the growth of your baby.
Together with local hospitals and healthcare insurance, our practice has determined
the indications that call for a growth scan during pregnancy.
During your pregnancy, your obstetrician will discuss with you and your partner whether you have an indication for a growth scan.
No indication for a growth scan?
In case you have no indication for a growth scan, and you would still like to have one done, unfortunately you will have to pay for it yourself. This costs €38.92. You can pay with your debit card or in cash, after your appointment.
The ultrasound takes about 15-20 minutes. Right after the scan, the ultrasound operator or the obstetrician will discuss the result of the ultrasound with you and your partner.
